VR4T Training in Sofia

Bringing Virtual Reality into Tourism Education

People working together

From 8 to 10 July 2025, the city of Sofia, Bulgaria hosted the first international training activity of the VR4T – Virtual Reality for Tourism project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. This event marked a major milestone for the project, as it was the pilot implementation of the innovative training programme being developed by the project consortium.

About the Project

VR4T aims to support the digital transition of the tourism sector by equipping VET educators and tourism professionals with the skills to integrate Virtual Reality (VR) into training and service delivery. The project promotes the use of immersive technologies to enhance learning, foster innovation, and contribute to more sustainable and accessible tourism services across Europe.

What the Training Covered

During the three-day training, participants engaged in a series of thematic modules designed to introduce them to both the practical and strategic aspects of using VR in tourism. Topics included:

  • Applications and challenges of VR in tourism education

  • Digital tools for tourism services (e.g. 360° video, interactive VR content, 3D simulations)

  • Combining VR with soft skills development in tourism training

  • Emerging technologies such as AR, AI, and Big Data in tourism

  • Sustainability-focused case studies using immersive technologies

  • Study visit and peer learning activities

The training also provided opportunities for intercultural exchange and collaboration, bringing together participants from Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia, North Macedonia, and Spain.

Moving Forward

This training activity not only tested the first version of the VR4T curriculum but also offered valuable input for its further refinement. The feedback collected from participants will help the project team shape a final version that responds directly to the real needs of professionals in the tourism field.
