Unlocking the Potential of Coworking Spaces for Migrant Inclusion in Athens
Insights from the Greek Field Research for the RES-MOVE Project
As part of the RES-MOVE project, the Academy of Entrepreneurship conducted insightful field research in Athens, focusing on the role of coworking and collaborative spaces in fostering inclusion for migrants. This important initiative explored how these spaces can become hubs of opportunity, skill development, and community building for migrants and marginalized groups.
The research involved 11 migrant respondents and 10 coworking space representatives, offering valuable perspectives on both challenges and opportunities in the region. Among the key findings was the significant potential of coworking spaces and collaborative environments, such as multilingual libraries, multicultural centers, and social dining spaces, to serve as bridges to professional growth and integration.
Migrants highlighted the need for mentorship, skill development, and networking opportunities, while coworking space representatives acknowledged the value of diversity and inclusivity. Many spaces are already implementing innovative practices, such as creative workshops and community events aimed at engaging migrant communities. However, challenges such as language barriers, financial constraints, and cultural differences persist, underscoring the importance of tailored mentorship and sustainable initiatives.
We would like to express our gratitude to the coworking spaces that participated in this research:

What is RES-MOVE?
RES-MOVE, funded by the Asylum, Migration, and Integration Fund (AMIF), aims to enhance the integration of migrants through coworking spaces by fostering access to opportunities, mentorship, and networks. By transforming coworking spaces into hubs of inclusion, the project seeks to create a more dynamic and inclusive labor market across Europe.
