RES-MOVE: Publication of the Field research report and the Guidelines on inclusive coworking

Findings and Guidelines for Inclusive Coworking Practices

People working together

The RES-MOVE partnership, co-funded by the EU Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF), has released two key documents in its final research phase. The RES-MOVE project explores how collaborative and coworking spaces (CWCS) can enhance migrant integration by fostering professional development and social inclusion.

The latest report examines the impact of CWCS in integrating migrants, particularly in non-urban areas, while the accompanying guidelines offer practical recommendations for creating inclusive coworking spaces based on field research findings.

As part of the research, field studies were conducted across 11 European project territories, with insights gathered from interviews with 115 migrants and 101 CWCS representatives. The findings highlight both opportunities and challenges in making coworking spaces more inclusive. Community-driven coworking spaces are leading the way in mentorship and partnerships, while business-oriented spaces often lack the infrastructure to support migrant integration effectively. Key barriers include funding constraints, language difficulties, and the undervaluation of migrants’ skills. However, collaborations with NGOs and local authorities offer promising solutions for fostering more inclusive environments.

The report offers key insights for policymakers and coworking communities, summarised in A Guide to Inclusive Coworking Spaces: Guidelines for Creating and Strengthening Inclusive Coworking Spaces (ICS). These guidelines provide practical recommendations for fostering inclusivity and emphasise the need for collaboration between coworking spaces, public institutions, and private enterprises to develop sustainable integration models.

By adopting these strategies, coworking spaces can become powerful catalysts for social cohesion and economic empowerment, enabling migrants and marginalised groups to thrive. The aim is to foster inclusivity, create fair opportunities, and establish innovative routes to social and economic integration.
